Assessor Qualifications: Background and the most recent Assessor courses available:
The first qualifications that were required for assessors to assess NVQ learners were called the D32/D33 Units. These were superseded by the A1 Award. Assessors that were already D32,D33 qualified could take a bridging certificate in order to gain the A1 award. The A1 award was eventually replaced by a new range of assessor qualifications.
Details of the new and most up to date assessor courses are listed below:
Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) – Units 1,2 & 3
Course Summary:
This is the only course available that will make you a fully qualified assessor. After you have completed this qualification you can assess people at their work premises in your own area of occupational competence. You will also be qualified to assess your assigned learner’s vocational knowledge in any of the following learning environments: virtual learning, classrooms and workshops.
Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (ACWE) – Units 1 & 2
Course Summary:
This course if for assessors that need to be able to assess learners in a workplace. Once qualified this course will only allow you to assess learners’ occupational competence within a work environment.
Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (AVRA) – Units 1 & 3
Course Summary:
This qualification is required for anyone that wants to be qualified to assess learners in any of the following environments: classrooms, workshops and virtual learning. You will only be qualified to assess the candidate’s vocational knowledge and understanding outside of the work place.
Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (UPPA) – Unit 1
Course Summary:
This qualification is ideal for candidates that are already trained assessor it is a refresher course to bring their knowledge up to date. This qualification alone does not allow you to assess learners in the work place or any learning environment.
